What not to do for an audition

If you're an aspiring actor, you probably know that getting to the big time is tough. But there are some things that even experienced actors do wrong during auditions that can lead to rejection—and make them look like they don't belong in front of a camera or on stage. Here's what not to do:
Do not assume that you are good enough.
The first thing you need to know is that there are no absolutes. There is no such thing as a guaranteed success in life or in an audition room. This can be difficult for some people, who have been told all their lives that they are the best at everything they do and will always succeed at whatever task they set out for themselves.
This kind of attitude can lead to complacency and cockiness--two qualities that will hinder your ability to perform at your best during an audition. Remember: even if you have had success with previous performances (or auditions), this does not mean that everything will go perfectly on this occasion!
Do not give up after the first audition.
Don't give up after the first audition.
The first time you audition for a role and don't get it, that can be discouraging. But don't let it discourage you from continuing to pursue acting as a career. You never know when an opportunity might come around again; and even if it doesn't, there are plenty of other roles out there waiting for someone like you!
Don't be discouraged if you don't get the role or callback after your second audition. There will always be another chance--in fact, chances are good that this casting director will see more than one person per role (often hundreds). Your performance may not have been what they were looking for or could have been better; either way, keep working hard so that next time around things work out differently!
Do not be afraid to ask for help.
Asking for help is one of the most important things you can do. First, ask your teachers and friends. They will be able to tell if something is not working, or if your performance needs more work in general. If they don't have any answers for you, then ask a professional! There are many reputable acting coaches out there who can help with anything from script analysis to audition prep classes. In addition to those options, there are also great websites like this one that provide information on how exactly how an actor should prepare themselves before going into an audition room (or even before doing any sort of self-taped material).
Do not let other people's opinions weigh you down.
It's important to remember that you are your own person and, therefore, your performance should be as well. You are not an actor or actress because people tell you so; rather, you are an actor or actress because of what you do and how you feel about yourself when performing.
Actors often find themselves becoming overly dependent on the opinions of others for validation--especially when it comes to auditioning for roles in film and television projects. While these opinions may be valid (or not), they will affect how an actor feels about their work--and ultimately their career as a whole--depending on whether those people were positive or negative about it.
It's best if actors can learn early on in their careers how important it is not only to ignore outside sources but also maintain self-confidence while doing so!
Keep persevering, keep improving
So, you're feeling a bit down about your audition. It's okay! We've all been there. But don't let that stop you from trying again and again and again. Just keep persevering, keep improving and eventually you'll land the part of a lifetime (or at least an extra role).
If this sounds like advice that could apply to any aspect of life, well...that's because it does! Keep going no matter what happens; don't give up on yourself or anyone else; don't let anything stop you from living your best life; etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam ad infinitum until we're all dead from exhaustion (which might actually happen soon enough).
We hope that you have found these tips helpful and will be able to apply them to your next audition. Remember, the most important thing is to keep persevering and improving!
